The Art of Social Media: Power Tips for Power Users -Guy Kawasaki
1) What was the general theme or argument of the book?
The book is used essentially as a guide for tailoring your business social media profile to suit your business needs.
2) How did the book, in your opinion, connect with and enhance what you are learning in ENT 3003?
In ENT 3003 we learned about the importance of maintaining business connections with others in your field. Social media allows you to do exactly this as well as establishing new connections and making yourself available to your customers.
3) If you had to design an exercise for this class, based on the book you read, what would that exercise involve?
I would make the students develop their own social media profile using the techniques described in the book.
4) What was your biggest surprise or 'aha' moment when reading the book? In other words, what did you learn that differed most from your expectations?
The integration of social media and blogging. You can utilize social media to pull people off of the social media website and onto your own blog or website which is a very useful tool when trying to encourage potential customers to purchase your product.

Hi Ryan,
ReplyDeleteFor this week's reading reflection, I also chose to read "The Art of Social Media: Power Tips for Power Users" by Guy Kawasaki. I thought you did a good job of summarizing the key points that were addressed in the book but I would've just gone into a little more detail in your post. I like that you highlighted the point that social media makes yourself available to customers, it really opens a whole new line of communication where you can get almost instant feedback from your customers to see how your business is doing and what they think you can do to improve or change it. For the exercise designed for students, I actually suggested that they go out an talk to someone who works locally that has a strong social media presence for their business but I think your idea was even better; you could even have students create "mock" social media profiles like they just started their business.
I agree with Danielle, I read another blog that helped me understand more over what the book was about and really got my attention on to how much one can learn about this book to make a better "propaganda" for a product or service that one provides.
ReplyDeleteIt would have been more interesting to see your responses with more detailed although I like the simplicity of your posts that basically jump into the main idea.
Like i mentioned in the other comment, this book is interesting to me since I am not the best with social media and could teach me a lot onto how to advertise myself better as an athlete and advertise my business better as well.
Hi Ryan,
ReplyDeleteI like your idea for the assignment. I think creating a strictly business social media account isn't as easy as it sounds. Consistency is key. Social media is such a large part of marketing in todays day and age, it is important to establish connections and have a presence online.
