Your Entrepreneurship Story 3A

I have been exposed to entrepreneurship in my life in a couple of different ways. The first is that from my sophomore to my senior year of high school I actually worked directly for an entrepreneur. His name is Rick Eva and he started his own company in 2011 where he sold colored sand and custom engraved unity sets for people who were about to get married. Nearly all of the sales are online and he needed me to interact with the customers online and package and ship all of the orders. It was very satisfying to watch the company grow during this time and I learned a lot about myself and my own desire to become an entrepreneur.

Another way that I have been exposed to entrepreneurship is through my own "business" of buying and selling expensive shoes and clothing online. There are certain brands and websites that sell very limited amounts of exclusive items. The products are so limited that they sell out within a couple seconds of being released online. I have a special program on my computer that can purchase these items very quickly so that I have a much better chance. I can then turn around and sell these items at a profit on various online markets such as eBay, Grailed, or GOAT. The shoes pictured above are a pair of Adidas Yeezy Boost 350 V2 Zebras. I made several hundred dollars off of just one of pair of these shoes because they are so limited. Running this little "business" has taught me a lot about the business process and the basic functions of a business. It has required me to plan ahead and take some calculated risks to try to improve my earnings. I've had a lot of fun doing this and I never feel like I am working. This is how I want my life to be and this is why I'm seriously considering entrepreneurship.

In this class I hope to learn more about the world of entrepreneurship and fine-tune the skills that I learned while working for and operating small business. I've had some valuable experiences but never any formal education so this is an exciting experience for me and I hope I can learn a lot from this class.

  1. Hi Ryan, it is very cool that you worked with an entrepreneur at an early age. How did he manage to contact you? Did you know him before? I think it is kind of peculiar but interesting how the company works with colored sand and custom engraved sets– I guess they may go hand to hand. Also, for your shoe company, it is awesome how you managed to start your own business. It is great that you chose this path to take (taking a class at UF to learn more about it.)

  2. Hi Ryan. I see all the time people becoming so successful off of businesses like yours. I have tried so many times getting my hands on a pair of yeezys, but you're right they so limited. I think they create a false sense of scarcity in order to make the shoes appear more exclusive. I know people who have paid 5 times the original price for a single pair. I know there are so many bots you can purchase, that will take all the work out of buying shoes on release dates.
Good luck with your business! Smart idea especially if you know how to work the system.

  3. Hi Ryan! I’m sure working with Rick Eva has given you many pointers on how to improve your own business! It is very interesting that you became interested with entrepreneurship at such a young age. I have some friends that have done the same thing that you do but with clothing alone. It is definitely an interesting business, getting to know what people are most interested in and seeing how much they’re willing to pay for something

    Have a great semester!

  4. Ryan, you have already had more experience in entrepreneurship than many of our classmates. The online sand art business that you worked in was a great way to start at one of the lower levels of business. A company that small is a great way to learn the processes and you have been able to transfer that knowledge into your own business venture of buying and selling designer clothing. This business can be very profitable for anyone who is knowledgeable and passionate about the fashion industry. I wish you good luck in your future endeavors!

  5. Hi Ryan! I think you're really smart for working with that entrepreneur. Getting actually hands on experience where your immersing yourself in the business and how it operates is the best learning experience you can take on for yourself. I've also always been a big believer that doing something yourself really teaches you better practices, so that's great that you have experience running your business. Along with your outside experience, I really think you taking this course will only make you better off. I wish you all the luck in the future!

  6. Hey Ryan,
Thank you for your post, it was very interesting. Reading a lot of these other posts, yours definitely sticks out. That is because you have a personal connection to entrepreneurship. I have seen some other similar types of businesses that you started and have always wanted to start one of my own. It was fun to read how successful you made your own entrepreneurship story.
